Tweeting in Safari with Mountain Lion

The built-in Twitter function found in Mountain Lion — the latest OS upgrade from Apple — is one of nicer features in this cat. I’ve been trying it with Safari, and it works like a charm. Here’s a quick how-to:

1. Go into System Preferences under Mail, Contacts and Calendars, and set up one or more Twitter accounts. You can see I set one up for newsonaut.

2. When you come across a webpage you feel is worth sharing, click on the Share icon in the toolbar.

3. If you have more than one account, you’ll have the option of switching between them. Type in your tweet and click on click on Send.

I do have one quibble. It would be even nicer if the message area could be pre-populated with the title of the webpage, or at least have a quick way of inserting it. I’ve seen this done in other apps, so it is possible.

It does, by the way, automatically add the webpage’s URL once you click Send. Plus, of course, there is the cute Twitter whistle to top things off.
