The news industry that I used to know
When last we looked, this music video by Walk Off The Earth had received 10 million views on YouTube. That’s a big number for a band from Burlington, Ontario, without any backing from the music industry. Given that kind of support, they’re well on their way to a successful career — with or without a label.
It makes me wonder why we aren’t seeing more of this in the news industry. What’s to stop enterprising journalists from posting innovative pieces online and building a reputation that allows them to make enough money to continue their work without ever having to be employed full-time. Their independence would make them even more credible.
At the very least, it would look good in a resumé.
