Infographics go mainstream
Infographics: a trend that’s had its day, or a useful tool that will never go out of style?
If you’re leaning toward “useful tool,” you’ll be glad to know there’s a newish website called Visual.ly where you can post and share your latest info-creations. Or, better still for those of us lacking skills, have one created for you.
I went to the site and punched in #kamloops to create a nifty graphic showing how this hashtag fares on Twitter. The result is posted among my projects. It looks good, but I have a couple of questions. First, how relevant is the data? Second, do we really need a graphic that big to display 10 factoids?
Despite my skepticism, I’m keeping an eye on Visual.ly. Talented people are sharing some inspiring work. Plus, Visual.ly is promising more creation tools in the near future, so things can only get better.
